ARGUMENTS!

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

So, we meet again this week with a new topic which is ARGUMENTS. Argument is important in oral and written communication. The argument used when someone is asking for a YES or NO questions. If it is a YES, we have to give the arguments and if it is a NO, we still need to give the arguments too. Hence, we can simply say that we have to use arguments to justify the reasons or our claim about some issues. A good argument must be presented using the understandable language, a systematic, easily interpreted and understood in order to avoid another questions. For example,

Before going too far, what is argument? Argument is a set of statements that must be verified or we can say that argument is a form of thinking that uses a  specific statement to support other statements or simply a conclusion. An argument involves establishing a claim and then proving it with the use of logical reasoning, examples, and research. the picture below summarizes the steps in establishing an argument;

There are two type of argue which are writing arguments and verbal arguments. The writing arguments are disseminated through print and electronic media such as books, journals, articles and others while verbal arguments are presented orally, speech and logical strength. But, the verbal arguments may invites a lot of mistakes and errors of logic.

Since I had explained about the type of argue, now lets move on the attributes of the debaters who need to present the arguments. The debaters must be;

  1. Fair and balanced
  2. Open-minded
  3. Have a deep knowledge of the issue addressed
  4. Able to manipulate the opponents' mistakes
  5. Analyze the opponents or audiences background so that relevant arguments can be built
  6. Avoid fallacy
  7. Posses good communication skills
  8. Self-calm and balanced personality

I think that's all for today. Assalamualaikum w.b.t.
